The album version was done with what was closest on hand: a multi-effects pedal and a laptop. Digital fuzz, digital amps, octave-down pitch shifted guitar to do the bass part.
This version was done with real amps, analog effects, and yes, an actual bass. Even layered real drums over the electronic beat. I wanted to see how this approach would turn out (and yet still did things quickly). Actual microphones recorded acoustic sounds. Tubes inside amps were driven. Metal things were hit with sticks.
